Isaaqs are horrible in politics and public relations. They refused to take these refugees because they were trying to score points against the government in Xamar, who told the UNDP not to register these people as refugees but as Internally Displaced Persons, since Somaliland is part of Somalia. So to prove that they're actually a country and not ruled from Xamar a couple retarded politicans temporarily refused entry to these people. Puntland is waaaay better at PR for sure.
Isaaqs are hospitable, so lets not over blow that incident because the people were against it. Somalis from all clans live in Somalialnd and are welcomed with open arms.
The politicians right now are a bunch of garden variety hill billies.

There's alot more to the story than that, and the main thing was Xamar was receiving aid money by labeling them "internally displaced persons" on behalf of SL, wheras those labelled refugees were being directly helped by the international community when they docked at berbera. Btw luuqa ba iga xidhan kuma jawaabi karayo
Np sxb. Yeah, that's true. But regardless, what those politicians did was completely idiotic. Basic Soomaalinimo should always supersede politics. And to prove that Somalilanders have no sense of PR it was our local media that exposed what was happening there. They didnt stop to think how this would make us look. Just bad all around.
Yeah but why didn't Somalia have the basic somalinimo and allow them to be labelled refugees to ease financial constraints instead of pocketing it as "internally displaced persons". Teedakale SL prior to this incident released a statement saying they were full capacity and have taken close to 20,000 refugees, more than anywhere in the peninsula combined. They also told the international community what xamar was doing, & xamar refused to budge. Sxb im not an idiot & im not naive

this guy is a self hater, dont know why you are bothering with him
Why? Because I don't pray to clan deities like you?
Bro, it's a simple cost-benefit analysis. Was it worth to get such bad PR just to stick it to Xamar? Remember, perception is reality, so this one bad PR incident pretty much wiped out all of the good we have been doing for our fellow Somalis, like the 20,000 people u mentioned.

That would basically mean recognizing the Berbera is another country. Do you not see the implications of that? Somaliland, by demanding that the people be labelled refugees, was basically asking the UN to recognize part of a member state as independent.

That's the dumbest shit I ever heard. They are refugees. How are they internally displace, when they're coming from another country (yemen)
