That could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. If multinational corporations and conglomerates avoid Somali, I'd consider that a blessing. Iran is also a pariah state, yet its more self-sufficient and advanced than any arab gulf state.

Self-sufficiency and natural growth experienced by all, and not just the 1%, is better than being flooding with FDR and capital that will flee the country on the first sign of instability. We also avoid crippling free-trade agreements and neo-liberal policies.

Believe me that we can recover in just 20 years if peace and unity can be restored. If good governance is had and free enterprise is accommodated we can be a miracle like Rwanda. Rwanda gives me hope but Rwanda's makeup is so different than us that I'm not sure we can take off like Rwanda after a tragedy. Rwanda has been blessed to have a benovelent dictator who has no ounce of corruption and who is obsessed about advancing his country with every tools he can provide them.

Legit funds and investments will avoid Somalia but that doesn't mean crooks won't.


Their investments and projects will just breed more corruption and instability.

Unless Somalia is strong enough to guard against them they have no choice but have a more isolationist economic policy.

The only problem with this is; Somalia only has enough surface water resources to irrigate less than 500,000 HA of land so it needs to import over 90% of its food. Always wonder why people go on about Somalia's vast agricultural resources. If you don't have water then all the land in the world is useless.

So foreign currency is required which breaks the dream of isolationism unfortunately.

That's General Muhammed Abshir Haman, the former head of armed forces. Before Somalia had a police force, he was the chief of the armed forces and Siad Barre came under him. When the police force was established, he had the choice to be the army chief or the police chief, he chose for the police. His deputy became the army chief, he died in late 1960s, MSB succeeded him. Rest is history.

I do agree with you that they had some kind of dignity from how they were dressed to how they behaved themselves. The president even brought a nice present for the german chancellor. Now they arrive empty handed to beg.

No, that was general Gabayre who was lower in rank. The general that he succeeded was called General Daud, if he didn't die, MSB would never become major general.
