Why would he feature himself in a dead man's land then ?
He doesn't live in the camp site. He lives inside the actual city Fort McMurray. He drives to and from work. From the looks of his home, he lives downtown. There is no O&G jobs in the city. The work is deep inside the wilderness.
The sites are anywhere between 30 minutes to a couple hours drive from Fort McMurray.
He was spared from joblessness because he's a local. He doesn't fly in and fly out/take company coach.
You know some Somalis actually flew in and flew out from Ontario every shift. They never actually lived in Alberta. But those guys were the first to be laid off. The second guys were those living in Edmonton/Calgary.
The third guys will be local people like him if he is not maintenance crew.
