I have this memory of Burnsville, MN, from when I was in elementary school. It starts with the first snowfall of the year, which began on a Friday night and lasted for five days straight.

As a young child, you don’t always notice the passage of time or even know what day it is. By Monday, it had been snowing for three days straight. I remember there was so much snow that I couldn't see over it—mind you, I was in kindergarten, only about three feet tall.

From that point on in my life, I decided never to live in a cold, snow-covered place.

What’s your experience with snow as a Somali?

In middle school when the buses would drop us off early at school we would have to wait in the cold. Mind you it would be freezing and they did not care. Also, they would force us to go outside for recess and the cold air hurt. So, what we would do was hide inside the school and try not to get caught. My most fondest memory would be when I had a snowball fight with my friends against our enemies. They had the upper hand as they started the war first but then we won I remember throwing a snowball at this girl and guy I hated. Good ol days! Never would go back tho.

It’s a privilege to experience winter and all four seasons. It’s only for 3 months, suck it up buttercups.

Do you still live in that state because I don't know how y'all still do it. I can recall once I had the same situation at school at snow ball fight. Afterward I had went to the restroom and I talking to someone and I cut on hot water by accident while my finger were frozen. :damn: that tingling feeling in my fingers had me crying

Sxb I still remember the numbers in my fingers

Damn, it’s -31 celsius with the wind in Minneapolis right now. Yet, Somalis still stay there and not move to other cities. Somalis deep down don’t have anything against winter.

You’re in the south though, you should be having fond memories.

I'm in school so I'm still here. Theres so much snow its taller than my sib LMFAO. Luckily I got out of shovelling duty cuz I caught a cold. Sadly tho I got midterms soon so I will be out in the cold once again... Yeah your hand turns yellow and it hurts so much! Even when I'm wearing layers.
