How come the LibDems are in the UK political wilderness?

Why don't Labour voters vote for them as the alternative instead of staying home on Election Day or even voting for Theresa May which I have read many will do?

Tuition fees. Labour was the party of working class prior to 1997 prior to Tony Blair. He turned it centrist. They raised the tuition fees in 2004 to a yearly fee of 3000 pounds. Fast forward to 2010 election, the Conservatives who were in opposition to Labour said they would triple the fees so the UK could compete with world leading institutions. So the conservatives wanted to raise the fees, Labour wanted to keep it as is so the Lib Dems decided they wanted to scrap the fees altogether and signed an anti-tuition fee pledge.

The conservatives got elected but did not get an overall majority and instead of going into a coalition with Labour, the new kingmakers Lib dem were promised significant cabinet positions and the ceremonial deputy PM and so they went with the Conservatives. What ensued were 2 months of glory, protest, riots, it was really beautiful. Lib dems did well in university towns and the betrayal was not forgotten. Realising the massive backlash, the Lib dem leader went on youtube to apologise but the damage was already done. They were destroyed in the 2015 election.

FPTP makes people politically tribal, voting for who stands the best chance locally. It's a repulsive system.

But, you do realise FPTP discriminates against small parties like Lib Dems, UKIP, SNP and BNP. Not really. If you add all the constituencies votes together, it does display what the UK public wants as a government. Even FPTP may not be majoritarian form of an election system, it does show what political party has more votes than the other party.

FPTP is better than any other electoral system even if there is an electoral system that wants proportional representation. As Proportional Representation failed drastically in Weimar Germany, FPTP is the only practical electoral system as it ensures a strong and decisive government.

The liberal "democrats" are untrustworthy, they do anything to get votes. In 2010 their campaign was to abolish tuition fees yet the coalition government trebled it. Now they want to reverse the Brexit vote by calling for another general election.

They are a waste of a vote. There is no way Farron, will become PM in 14 days time, it will either be May or Corbyn.

No, a lot of people vote Conservative or Labour because it is pointless to vote anything else. It doesn't show what the people want.

Same thing in America. FPTP always creates duopolies.

Ironically, those political parties are the biggest.

What electoral system do you think is the best?

I hope Netherlands learned about Germany in depth because proportional representation flopped for them during Weimar Germany which was the 'golden age' of Germany.

History repeats itself.
:damn:

NL GDP PPP - $53,139
UK GDP PPP - $42,514

..Despite the UK having tones of advantages over them (nuclear weapons, soft power, etc).

They are shit in some other aspects.

I think Norway is the best country in Europe overall. But close to 1% of them are Somali, which is too damn high. :russ:

My close friend was born there and lived there for like 13-14 years. But, she's here in the UK because there wasn't enough opportunities there.

Yeah, most of the Somalis live in the capital city.

You sure, Norway is the best country in Europe? What about Switzerland? The most neutral, peaceful and rich country in Europe?

Nordic Somali immigrants to the UK are just following the Somali herd rather than migrating for economic reasons.
