I only ask because of this exports graphic from 2019:

A little surprised that gold accounts for so much in terms of exports.

I think the most gold potential regions in Somalia are Adal and Northern maaakhir around the coast. But Galmudug has the most Uranium and rare elements in Somalia, correct me if I'm wrong

What if they’re re-exports like Dubai
I have a feeling that's it.

Yes, I've read about Mudug having a fair amount in terms of uranium. Man, Siyaad really fucked us when he agreed to things like not extracting oil when the Saudis supposedly asked that of him during the oil crisis. It's amazing how underdeveloped the economy is in terms of exports. Even how we trade our livestock. We should be doing stuff like a wide range of dairy exports, eggs, growing local free-range and grass-fed meat to market to foreign health and environmentally conscious markets, creating local breeds for selling things like wool and leather to even luxury brands if need be not just shipping out whole sheep. This is foolishness.

@Shimbiris I think we should introduce new Somali Law, no one can own more than one property. This will elemanate tribal competition. What's the point of claiming terretary if your only allowed to own your home as property.

Hmm, I think it would also be best to really push toward making pastoral nomads and agropastoralists into settled ranchers. Give every saaxiib a plot of land, a simple, standard home-setup, a certain selection of livestock to support the local economy and teach them methods like permaculture. Rotational grazing, aquaculture, crop rotation, food forests... They'll start repping their region or tuulo more than their qabiil pretty quick as there will be no use for qabiilism in such an environment.

I think it would be better to nationalize all important resources like oil, gold, etc.

then we can just give temporary contracts on the areas to companies to mine up without losing our control on the resources!

if we do that, have some anti-monopoly laws, and prevent large land claims by outsiders then inshALLAH it would work out.

I saw in a colonial book that the British thought Somalia was good for ranching. Not so much farming though

They thought this of Waqooyi and the northeast but Koonfur had a lot of farming potential and was already being quite farmed. To them if the tsetse fly was dealt with and some modern techniques and equipment were thrown in Koonfur had the potential to be quite the bread basket. There are pretty fertile pockets in the north too like some of the interior of the northwest and places like Cal Madow and the north in general can be made more farming friendly with irrigation and various new techniques like you find with permaculture but yes, much of it is better for ranching. Somalia also has a lot of fishery potential, as you might imagine. We could even go pretty hard core with fish farming the way the Chinese have. Our country has the potential to be pretty food self sufficient if things are planned intelligently.
