2k without including flight tickets. You gotta make that last depends on how long you going for.

If you like the finer things in life then you need 3500- 5k for relaxed holiday, that means eating in the best spots, travelling between cities on rental car, staying in nicer hotels and enough to donate for needy relatives.

I agree with scarecrow, 2k if your staying one city and sleeping with fam, 5k if your travelling around, 15k if you’re planning to pay mehr and decent wedding. Most important advice I can give, be careful of shaxad. All the locals, especially family, will try to make you broke by asking for money. There are no favours or free lunch, everything has a price. When I landed I gave my cousin $50 thinking he won’t ask me anything again, my brother looked at me as if I was a handicap.

I spent about $3000 last time. I mostly was in Ddsi. I got a better exchange rate for the Birr from my sub clan near the Somali border. These Amhara will rape you off your dollars if you exchange it with them.

I also prefer not staying with relatives. I see them but then head back to my hotel. The rates are not that bad. Just don’t expect western standards of accommodation.
