I feel like if we don’t have all of our ancient history protected we’ll be victims of historical revisionism in the near future

Historical revisionism happens everywhere. Even in highly documented regions of the world, even the recent documented civil war history has various competing narratives.

At least in today’s age we have video and audio recordings so it’ll be very difficult to lie about current events in the future since we record nearly everything

A lot of what we know as history is just different people's perspectives on historical events.
Apart from monuments or art, which I would say captures the country's history in a better light. And I personally haven't heard of any Somali monuments or architecture on our land.

How many of these were designed and built by Somalis? I'm not trying to be a self hater or shit on my heritage, I have just heard several conflicting stories and I'm just curious.

All of them, lol. These architectures date back to Mogadishu/Ajuran Sultanates and Ifat/Adal Sultanates all Somali led Sultanates. There have been many stone-built ruins found across the interior where they had many urban cities. Check out Bardheere, Luuq, Baidoa, Qelafo, Afgooye, Amud, Abasa, Dakkar, Maduna, and more. Stone-built residential houses have been built, including multi-story high buildings, mosques, roads, bridges, citadels, fortresses, castles, palaces, pillar tomb fields, necropolises, and more than you had coastal medieval Somali cities like Mogadishu, Zeila, Berbera, Merca, Barawa, Mareeg, Gondershe, and more that had the same engineering feat as the interior and they also built defensive towers and ports for boats to stop by.

Going back to the interior Somalis were the only hydraulic state in Africa where monopolized the water resources of the Shebelle and Jubba rivers. Through hydraulic engineering, it also constructed many of the limestone wells and cisterns of the state that are still operative and in use today. The rulers developed new systems for agriculture and taxation, which continued to be used in parts of the Horn of Africa as late as the 19th century.

Our ancestors in the antiquity period had many city-states that were built in stone complex structures but the five major ones that were considered metropolises were Malao (Berbera), Avalite (Zeila), Opone (Ras Hafun), Mundus (Hies), and Mosylon (Bossaso). Their achievement were impressive not just through their engineering but also by dominating the maritime spice, incense, and silk trade. This was around the 1st century till when Islam was born.

Even going back further in time they had in-land flourishing urban centers and I will quote.

Ancient tombs, pyramidal structures, ruined cities, and stone walls found in Somalia, such as the Wargaade Wall, are evidence of an old sophisticated civilization that once thrived in the Somali peninsula. The findings of archaeological excavations and research in the area suggest that this civilization had an ancient writing system.

In an 1878 report to the Royal Geographical Society of Great Britain, scientist J.M. Hildebrandt noted upon visiting the area that "we know from ancient authors that these districts, at present so desert, were formerly populous and civilized. I also discovered ancient ruins and rock-inscriptions both in pictures and characters These have hitherto not been deciphered."

Here are the ancient sculptures and ruins they have found. Obviously, there needs more archaeological investigation to find these buried ruined cities. Here: http://www.robertk.space/2018/11/mysterious-sculptures-from-somaliland/

In medieval times Mogadishu and Zeila were the centers for learning. They had universities and libraries. They engaged in mathematics, science, astronomy, medicine, philosophy, and expanded Islamic knowledge. Somalis had thriving industries such as weaving, shoemaking, tableware, jewellery, and produced various other products. We had a textile culture not many people know. They minted their own currency and Somalis had such sophistication that they had a highly developed system of weights and measures, credit was available, and written contracts were signed between the merchants the caravans who carried their merchandise into the interior. They developed an advanced calendar system, advanced irrigation system, and advanced navigation where Somali sailors knew their way around in the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. They invented a land measurement farming system with moos, taraab, and guldeed being the terms used. The list is endless if we're discussing the achievement of our ancestors.

You are a self-hater if you're questioning your ancestor's human abilities when they lived and dominated across the Horn because you are questioning their humanity. If you like to ask more questions feel free to comment or DM and I will happily send you some books you can read.
