When they support you their media pretends to be oblivious of what is happening.Even if you provide them with a libray full of evidence on gross violation of human rights they call their guy a champion of democracy.
Here is the story Ethiopia has always been dictatorial regime where human rights are a luxury and not basic needs.With successive brital regimes the western world has always supported and baby sitted Ethiopia which inturn has drained Somalia and brought it to its knees.Ethiopian dictators have always been used as a platform to suppress Somali rights not only in the occupied Ogaden but also they have been used to foster instability in Somalia proper.
When regime change happened they brought in Meles and claimed he is the champion of democracy not only in Ethiopia but also Africa at large.He was the voice of Africa representing Africa for the last 2 decades he was in power.He would be in the G8 meetings mixing with the developed countries and giving his expertise on how to govern developing countries.The reality was Meles was one of the most ruthless dictators of his time and his gross violation and abuse of his position was not even given a paragraph in the world media.The Economist,Financial Times etc always seemed to admonish him.They called him the champion of democracy in Africa and showered him with praises. Then when the Chineese scramble for Africa began they would brush of its threat by posting ONLF running over the construction of an oil field in Obole and this was given a bit of coverage like at least a paragraph and a story ran by the Newyork times if I am not wrong.Today the Chineese have done a hostile take over of Ethiopia and they have been granted a multi billion contracts to build infrastructures and exploit its natural resources be it oil,gas or other mineral resources .Then China has gone further by building its first military mission in Africa and the place is in Djibouti.Its just within the last 5 years that alot has happened and infact Addis Ababa has been greatly transformed into a mordern metropolitan with metros and highways connecting the city and easing the traffic jams also high rise building both for commercial as well as residential have been constructed.Then this has become a wake up call for the West.Ethiopia has moved on and they didnt want this all they wanted was Ethiopia to be on the dole and jump as high as they commanded them to do.So now all over sudden they try playing psycho drama on us and start revisiting the attrocities the regime has been upto all over the years from the time of its inception till today.What a shame.
