I simulated Somali population

I used a growth rate of 3.67%. I got this number from averaging out the population increases from 1983-1987.

19877,158,0043.61%
19866,908,5794.19%
19856,630,6374.11%
19846,369,0203.69%
19836,142,5133.20%

There was a huge dip in population in Somalia from 1989-1992, because of the civil war. Here are the numbers.
19926,428,141-4.52%
19916,732,702-3.81%
19906,999,096-0.52%
19897,035,378-1.75%

Anyways, Somalia's population in 2023 would be 26.2 million if we got growth rate of 3.67%.
8million less than it currently is, and even adjusting for those who went to the diaspora, that's a huge number!

Where is this population? The Ogaden bush is also empty (my lived experience) and there are very, very few large cities. Somali numbers are exaggerated. Max 20 million worldwide (Somalia is 10 million).

Luckily we have good population and land area data for Kenya's North Eastern Province. NEP has a population density of 20 per sq km. This is a region that is not agricultural and is almost entirely urban/nomadic.

Somalia has many farming areas in Hiirshabelle, Koonfur Galbeed and Somaliland so we can assume that it has higher density than North Eastern. Assuming a population density that is 1/3 higher than NEP gives a population density of 27 people per sq km. Such a density over a land area of 637,658 sq km gives you a population of 17.1 million. This is very close to the 18 million projected for Somalia this year.

Somalis overall are ~30 million people. The ~5th largest ethnic group in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Somalia at max is 15 million if we take the 2014 UN report. In ten years roughly the population grow by 2 million. Any nigga say 20+ you are delusional πŸ˜‚ you have to take the infant death rate and add the fraught and starvation and lastly people who ran from the country.

I don’t think it’s 30 million walaal.

It’s around 15-25 million

waryaa read again. I am talking about Somalia proper only, including Somaliland of course.
I couldn't find any good data on the Ogaden, but since Ethiopia's census claims the Somali region has a population of 6.5 million, let's go with that even though I think the real number is closer to the 8 to 9 million mark
so 18.5 million from somalia
3.5 million NFD kenya
6.5 million for the Somali region(2022 numbers).
720k For jabuuti.
Total Somali population in the horn comes out to be 29.2 million.
I am sure reer diaspora everywhere would make another 800k(maybe this is pushing it a bit, but let's go with it).
somali population world wide is around the 30 million people according to these numbers.
I personally think the Ogaden region is at least 9 million people, which means the total Somali population worldwide is actually slightly higher than 30 million.
I have no sauce for this but I think around 32 million is the correct number.

Ethiopia's Somali population alone stands at 7-8 million if we take their current updated population and use their last official census in 2007 of about 6% Somalis in their country.

We can even go ahead and say Ethiopia's current population is an over exaggeration and its really 100 million. That still puts Ogaden region at 6 million minimum.

No way they account to 40% of the total global Somali population. 15 million is way too low.

I think the bar is 20-30 million. Roughly the same size as Amhara.

Diaspora is more like 2.5 to 3 million. Yemen alone accounts for like 250-500k
