I think Somalis did the right thing.

Ibn Khaldon, the famous Muslim philosopher, said that "If corruption becomes rampant in any society, anarchy is the first step to correct the situation". If you had put enough time into reading the economic data on Somalia from the 1960s until now you would know how great the civil war was for the Somali people. 50 years from now people will glorify the likes of Farah Aideed, Abdullah Yousef, Abdulrahman Tuur, etc and will curse the likes of Siad Barre and Mohammed samatar. But we need to put credit where it's due

Thank you Hawiye for your Moryansim it turns out you were at the right side of history.

The civil war was a disaster and after it Somalia is still the most corrupt country in the world.

Lost some brain cells reading this nonsense
I hope this will bring back your lost brain cells. Somalia was doing much better in 2000 in economic terms than it was doing in 1989. How did that happen?

The Somali government is the most corrupt government the world. The self run towns like laascaanood before the war, Bosaso, Kismayo, Hargeisa, Barawa etc, were all doing good before a government was forced on them. They have all grown to huge proportion compared to where they were before Siad Barre. That's understandable given the fact that world won't allow a strategically located country like Somalia to be in such a state of anarchy. But now, even the corrupt leaders of Somalia and the IC understand that if they try to do anything funny, they might risk a complete Moryanimo tsunami like uprising.

the economic data on Somalia from the 1960s until now you
Somalia is literally poorer today than it was in the 70s, it has yet to reach the same GDP per capita that it had under the Kacaan after over 30 years.

But who cares about economy when conflicts, food insecurity, and instabilty ran rampant and still do?

The gdp dropped by half in 1977 and the economy is actually much better now than it was 1977. It's not fair to blame the rebels for Afwayen's shortcomings.

The GDP dropped due to the Ogaden war and IMF loans but in terms of GDP per capita it was still better than today. Yes I can blame the rebels because other african dictators were overthrown and managed to make their countries better.

But again, economic talk pales in comparison to other horrible things that were happening. For example as soon as the government collapsed you know what happened? A famine struck that killed thousands of Somalis, and ever since the nation has struggled to handle famines because surprise you actually need a stable government to combat famines, something the Kacaan was capable of.
