Interesting Thing About My School Reunion

A couple of days ago, an old school friend messaged me on Facebook about there being a groupchat on WhatsApp with people we went to school with, and asked if I was interested in being added. Said yes, as it would be nice to get in touch with people I haven't seen or spoke to for 13 years.

To my surprise, the people in the gc, are mostly the madow kids, both afro-Caribbeans and Africans. We've all been exchanging school photos, and not a single one of them have any photos of me......

Then I realised, I was never close to them. Don't get me wrong, I used to joke and play around with them.......but when it really came down to it, I don't remember really hanging out with them during break times, after school, and outside of school. I was mostly close to and around fellow Somalis, Timo jelec, and Turkish kids.

What I don't know is, was that a race thing or not? I never really felt that when I was a kid.....its really bizarre, and just cant get my head around it.

I went to a school called Abbey Wood, in an area called Abbey Wood, which is on the edge of southeast London, right on the London and Kent border. When I started the school in 2003, you could count the number of ethnic minority kids with one hand, and then from 2005, the numbers of minority kids blew up and by the time I finished school in 2008, madows were 2/3 of the school, with the rest being cadaan, Somali, timo jelec and Turkish.

The school got shut down, a year after I left, and is now a fancy Catholic school named St Paul's.

@Arma how were the outcomes of your classmates after the reunion, did any of them become baby mamas or gangsters?
