@AbraxasSpa @ain92ru They claim that Somali Naval forces came in four assault boats and they also saw the vessel, but repelled the attack.

It wouldn't surprise me if piracy in Somalia was instigated by the CIA and the like. They like to have their boogeymen around to world to justify the expenditure on military and intelligence agencies.

Piracy came out of the local frustration with the exploitation done by illegal fishing in the somali sea and the abuses subjected to local fishermen. They turned to warlords who promised them protection but quickly realised there is more money to be earned as pirate. It's more likely that these nations seized this golden opportunity to train their navies and use pirating as an excuse without having to actually deal with the problems that gave birth to it in the first place or they're there to protect their own fishing trawlers.

Why not in the 70s, 80s, 90s? The technology for piracy was there and gov control in rural Bari always was weak.

The technology was there but there were no warlords back then and fishing trawlers didn't have such a presence in the area until the 90s due to realising no government = free for all fishing.

There is no government presence in rural Puntland. Even today.

Puntland is really only Bosaso, Qardho, Garowe, Gaalkacyo. Rest of the land is the wild wild east, no gov control whatsoever.

I don't though, if you've actually took time to read my posts you'd see that I've called out the corrupt crooks in Villa Somalia on more than one occasion. Difference between me and you is that I don't pretend that belong to one qabiil or the other somehow makes you impervious to corruption.
