Is the surname mire a traditionally somali

I have a friend whos last name is mire and I was wondering if that was somali because it has meaning in both french and english

Yes it's Somali and it means original. It stems from the root word Mir wich is where plants and life originates. It's similar to Afro Asiatic languages forinstance Amir in Arabic is where the order originates. So I think those European languages have had Afro Asiatic influences. Another example is Dir wich means the land of the origin. So all the Somali tribes that lived in western Somali referred to themself Dir.

Abukar means farher of DIR, it states so on Gadabursi wukip. I think the land around Harar and Dire Dawe was the original home land for Somalis Oromo, and Afar basically Eastern Cushites. That's why its referred to as the land of the origin Dir = Dhulki Ir or origin.
