UAE asks Turkey to respect Arab states’ sovereignty

DUBAI: A senior United Arab Emirates official said on Saturday Turkey's policy towards Arab states was not reasonable and advised it to respect their sovereignty.

Relations between the two countries have been strained by Ankara’s support for Qatar after Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt imposed sanctions on Doha last year over its alleged support for extremist groups.


"It is no secret that Arab-Turkish relations aren't in their best state," UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash tweeted. "In order to return to balance, Ankara has to respect Arab sovereignty and deal with its neighbors with wisdom and rationality," he said.

The UAE sees itself as a bulwark against extremist groups like the Muslim Brotherhood. Abu Dhabi has long been uneasy with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ruling AK party and its support for such groups.


The two countries were drawn into a quarrel in December over a retweet by the Emirati foreign minister that Erdogan called an insult.

UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed shared a tweet at the time that accused Turkish troops of looting the holy city of Medina a century ago, prompting Erdogan to lash out saying that the minister had been spoiled by oil money.


Turkey then renamed the street in Ankara where the UAE Embassy is located after the Ottoman military commander who Sheikh Abdullah had appeared to criticize.

Turkey's involvement in Somalia is what caused the UAE to get more involved in the region.

They see the Horn as their backyard and would of course take action when another power takes an interest in their turf.

I think it's time we stop relying on any foreign power and uphold our sovereignty ourselves.

When will these Arabs ever learn

They have caused so much mess and brought misfortunes upon misfortunes upon themselves.

From destroying the caliphate and shaming the Muslim ummah nearly a century ago to meddling into Somali affairs with intent on dragging us into a proxy war.

I say Somalia allies with Russia/China and join the eastern super power taking stance against the Saudi UAE USA axis.

UAE and the rest of the Middle East should bow down to Turkey, if it wasn’t for centuries of Ottaman empire rule then those Arabs would have been half cadaan mutts by now.

Arabs have always despised Turks the Arabs feel that leading the Islamic world is their birth right because our Prophet PBUH was from them since the 9th century Islam politically have been dominated by Turks they're seething with jealousy

The early Arabs were lions but when they got fat and rich they became weak and less pious but they still feel the need to lead they hate the Turks so much they helped West destroy our last Islamic empire out of spite
