Quick thread.
Many empires in the past have lost their imperial possessions (territorities) this happened to the European powers recently after the end of WW2 and to many empires in history. Some successfully transition to a new poltical, economic and cultural reality others don't.
Now it appears as though Italian Somaliland after more than 30 years of chaos and disorder is on the cusp of losing it's imperial possesion, British Somaliland.
The leaders of British Somaliland entered foolishly into a union with Italian Somaliland on the premise of Somali unity but found themselves in the midst of a desperate power struggle between southern interests and the complete sidelining of their region leading to a bloody war and genocide and the declaration of independence.
Italian Somaliland, considering itself the imperial capital of a greater Somalia due to it's size and connection to other Somali regions, naturally filled the political elite there with a kind of arrogance. Losing British Somaliland will be a major blow to their imperial aspirations in the Ogaden and NFD and will force a reckoning and transition towards another economic and political model. These changes will not happen overnight but there will be a gradual shift as the possibility of acquiring other regions becomes more and more distant.
Will Italian Somaliland handle this shift well or will it implode completely? Time will tell.
