UNTMIS will be in Somalia until 2029, then we’ll discuss with them whether to continue the mission or not. Somalis just need get rid of Hassan in 2026, otherwise he’ll ask them to to stay past their deadline like he asked for AUSSOM after atmis.

However, it seems that China, Russia, and “A3 plus” members (Algeria, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, and Guyana) insisted on clarifying in the resolution that UNTMIS’ two-phase transition is designed to end by 31 October 2026. Considering the views expressed by these members, the penholder amended the draft text to express the Council’s intention, informed by the conditions on the ground, to terminate UNTMIS’ anticipated two-phased transition by 31 October 2026.
Broski its alright being in opps to the FG but be truthful. Idgaf about the gov but I see this as a major win for Somalia as we finally have a timetable for ending the UN mission. It also means that will conclude the AU mission as they don't pay themselves but get their funding through the UN mission. From 2026 its swim or drown for Somalia, we're on our own.

Am being truthful, after reading that, just confused this with AUSSOM which will be voted on by UNSC on Nov 15 is all. The UN leaving is a big win for Somalia. The FGS has ulterior motives with the timetable, they’re likely not trying to go back to the tent, but a win is a win. Hassan will walk either way, Somalis don’t need tent to accomplish that.

the frustration from AUSSOM seeped into this news. Nothing said

From ATMIS to UNTMIS, welcome your new boss same as the old boss.

The US knows the situation is going to be a disaster but the rest of the UNSC wasn't having it. They still voted it through in the end.

Are you illiterate? It very clearly says UNSOM will now transform to UNTMIS.
ATMIS ka aad sheegaysid xageed ka keentay?

The language in the resolution said the transistion will occur but the end of UNTMIS will 'informed by conditions on the ground'. The door is left open for endless extention of the mandate, or endless transistion.

The US knows their project is a mess and they don't want it to be exposed so early.
