It's time to let Somaliland go.

I agree. Jubbaland deserves independence. We've been treated by Xamar with contempt ever since we established our state. JIM.

To keep your balance, you must keep moving.
You see what I mean? So immature, we must have the colonial borders or there is no recognition. f*ck off with this BS calling us coons and slaves.
You are the one who brought up the colonialism meaning slavery to justify divisions among Somalis. In a sense, you are saying to yourself to "f*ck off with this BS calling us coons and slaves". Get your logic right before jumping on others accusing them of your own beliefs.

We were never actually colonized let alone enslaved. So it is bullshit. That isn't my justification, just a requirement of the AU. And also Montevideo Declaration. So stop coming at me with your pseudo-logic and admit you're just a little who can't accept SL seceding.

You can't rewrite history like that and discount 20 year long struggle of the Dervish Uprising against Britain. And Somaliland is not a member state of the African Union. What requirement are you talking about?

The Montevideo Declaraion of 1933 concerning statehood is too broad and has no legal bearing. Somaliland's attempts to bring it up are useless due to the vagueness of the terms. The best chance Somaliland has to get the recognition is to be truely worthy of it in the eyes of the International Community. At the moment Somalia has better image as a struggling nation moving in the right direction than the democracy-veneered dictatorship of Biixi in Somaliland. The rat in Villa Hargeisa needs to leave before the IC even considers Somaliland's recognition serously. Somaliland can become independent only if Awdal becomes independent and Sool and Sanaag are given up. You can't herd and hold them by force in SL and expect recognition. So, it goes both ways.

Montvideo Conference is only a part of it, the Law of Union was not signed by Italian Somaliland and thus is not legally binding. Montevideo Declaration isn't too vague to be either, but Somaliland is 100% democratic. There is no dispute

What is with people on this forum and their obsession with the arab states, almost all of them are shit examples of governments and are generating wealth due to oil. Why would we want to be like them.
Exactly as their oil will run out and that is the reason why they do not want us to use ours

What they want is irrelevant, oil is a key resource and used wisely can help propel a developing country into developed status. We can gradually faze it out and decrease our dependence more by diversifying the economy and investing heavily in solar farm with our potential.

Yes but they will try everything to stop that

Its time to move forward from this stalemate and consider the bigger picture. Somali clans cannot treat each other with respect and dignity. This is the absolute truth. Somalis are not a humane people with logic as a guiding principle. No need to fake this anymore. Even if your clan comes from a region in Somalia or Somaliland you will still be treated with suspicion.

Time to move on.

This isn't even in consideration right now, we should also have compulsory military training and conscription in the scenario that we must defend ourselves. We have a good relationship with Arab states and this would be solely for our own usage, we wouldn't want to drive down the price of oil.

No never that as prices must stay up

But they would, the renewable energy would only be used by our people alone and they don't even have electricity right now so it wouldn't affect supply and demand at all really. We would also harvest wind energy as it is also very windy.

Let’s say hypothetically Awdal gets a referendum and they decide to leave Somaliland. What’s next?

Would they join Somalia which they don’t even border or would they join their Dir cousins in Djibouti.

Because let’s be honest they don’t have enough resources to be a self sufficient independent state.

There won't be a referendum. It's all or nothing
