The same argument of "they don’t have enough resources to be a self sufficient independent state" can be used against Somaliland.Let’s say hypothetically Awdal gets a referendum and they decide to leave Somaliland. What’s next?
Would they join Somalia which they don’t even border or would they join their Dir cousins in Djibouti.
Because let’s be honest they don’t have enough resources to be a self sufficient independent state.

Awdal can survive fine without being in union with broke-ass Villa Hargeisa. It borders Djibouti and can trade and have industrial partnership with Djibouti without joining it.
Let me tell you this. There are already plans in place in Awdal to secede from Somaliland in case it gains recognition. And those plans were consulted with a certain foreign power.
