The ivory rings found in the Anglo-Saxon graves dates back between the fall of the Roman Empire and just around the reconquest of the former Roman territories by the Byzantine Empire.

Interestingly enough this archaeological work shows that the trade between Northeast Africa and Western Europe still remained strong even after the fall of the Romans and that they were connected through the trade networks as far away as Great Britain.
