Lineage of the Sultanates of Ifat & Adal

I'm aware that both of these Sultanates had members of the Walashma dynasty as rulers but my question is what lineage & ethnicity where they? It's very likely they were from one of the Somali clans, I have also heard that they were Harari or even from the Ethio-Semitic Argobba people.

the Makzhumas of shewa, which they overthrew were definitely Yemeni Arabs, or at least claimed to be.

We can’t be sure as to the background of the Walashmas, and Adal in its later glorious period was not ruled by Walashmas, but by the Somali Garaad Abun, Axmed Gurey and Nuur ini Mujahid, so even if they were not Somali that only makes the L smaller and the W’s bigger

The Walashma definetly had some connections with the Isaaq clan specifically the Habar Magaadle. The Walashma dynasty claimed to have descended from Aw-Barkhadle and the Isaaq has always claimed that mythical Aw-Barkhadle and our mythical Shrek Isaxaaq were brothers, plus Aw-Barkhadle’s tomb is in the heart of Isaaq territory where the remains of medieval city with walls have been found by Dr Sada Mire

Let’s not forget that the Habar Magaadle chief Axmed Gurey which most mis-associate with the Imam Axmed bin Ibrahim were the first to respond to his call of Holy war against the Abysinnian Emperor
