From arab word niik/neek = wasmo, the swahili name for the dance is Malaya which is also slang for . Niiko originates from Tanzania its a cultural bantu dance called Baikoko

Yes unfortunately niiko is associated with somalis aka somali baikoko, malaya with khaaliij aka arabian baikoko and original baikoko with tanzania/kenya/uganda

The somali version is the most moderate one but it goes against our Islamic and somali culture!
