Imagine we did this all over Somaliweyn our lands would look amazing in the next few decades. The program was funded by the county government and puts 1300+ women(many widows) on payroll to sustain the trees for a period of ~7 years.
The governor has already planted 300,000 trees and wants to finish a billion before end of term to suppress/avoid drought

Difficult to do in Somalia with the tiny plot sizes. In Somalia the average plot size of 20 by 20 means all the plot is built on our paved with no bare ground let alone space for a tree. In NFD the average plots are much bigger, usually 100 by 100 or slightly less. Each plot usually has many trees. That’s why the average NFD town has a lot of trees and most cities in Somalia look barren.Kismayo mayor speaks on this achievement inspired and wanting to compete, advises that Kismayo must also plant a tree within/by every home.

This is what I met, Midnimo New Kismayo which is settled by returnees from Kenya has the most trees in Kismayo. Nearly every house has at least 1 tree. They clearly adopted the NFD culture of planting treesDifficult to do in Somalia with the tiny plot sizes. The only city in Somalia i have seen adopt larger NFD size plots is Dhoobley and that’s provably because of the returnees
The real solution is water harvesting and using native plants. Trees that constantly need to be watered aren’t the solution, it just wastes more water.
