It wasnt just a Southern party it was big in Galbeed too with offices in Jigjiga and Harar.

wasnt SNL started before SYL?

SYL governed the entire republic of Somalia unlike the SNL which only governed British Somaliland.

HDM (Hizbiya Digil-Mirifle) was the main opposition party in the early years. It changed its name later on to Hizbiya Dastur Mustaqil al-Sumal (Somali Independent Constitutional Party). The man as my dp AUN was the leader of the party from 1955 to 59. Abdulkadir Mohamed Aden Zoppo.
