Great to see HSM fulfilling the dream of his predecessor to turn Somalia into Denmark in two years.

We’re finally talking about jobs, economy, education and public sector reforms like a Western country

I wonder how they plan on teaching that many teachers.Or do they plan on paying 3000 teachers salaries as most are currently in private schools and get paid through that.

Informative, says this is a pilot and we need 100k teachers, will be split between FMS/Banadir, no 4.5 to split the positions, told MPs to ignore elders lobbying for positions, 6 month hard training in person etc.

Seems like the teachers will compromise of student graduates who’ll be trained. Also this is free education

I think the numbers are easy to raise but what's key is the quality.

Whether that's the facilities or the content of education.

Will there be progress made on those ends too?

The bar is really low in East Africa and so Somalia can quickly overtake if everyone is on the same page and there are key measurable goals and targets.

Like to match the ambitions of 100K then the government needs to raise more revenue which poses more questions.

As this is government central policy wouldn't all the bureaucracy with the government structure with the federal member states delay progress.

Like Mogadishu can quickly train and hire teacher as it's within FGS scope but what about the rest of the country?

i had a look at somalias budget (their ministry website has it ) the amount of wasteful spending is insane , tens of millions given to pm office, ministers getting 20million in combined pay, they get paid as much as a developed western country whilst pennies are given for projects

Tbf they all have to buy bullet proof cars and have personal bodyguards. Security is an expensive drain.

We also need to attract the best talent in such a dangerous position. Can’t be cheating out on salaries

Yes you're right.

However this is a Somali led policy and initiative in government which is rare for FGS.

I'm very confident the government will amend the budgets to facilitate this policy of training 3,000 teachers in the coming years.

The issue is the budget doesn't go into much details so we can't really comment and make an assessment.

The Federal Government of Somalia budget book is only 65 pages long of which a quarter is budgets for donor projects.

Definitely room for improvement that HSM will develop which had stagnanted from the previous disaster regime.

This is good, Ashabaab used to kill Teachers and it would cause a negative effect to where people were afraid of becoming Teachers, Now as Ashabaab are being slowly defeated and people are coming back to this occupation. I think we will see more Teachers in the coming Years, in the future we need to do a Siad Barre type of Education Program where thousands of Teachers and Students are sent from Mog to Rural Places.
