So my mom want to waqooyi (hargeisa specifically), and she was visiting relatives she hadn't seen since the Civil War, and there were so many new extended family. Wat surprised her was that many of the extended family that came to greet her were clans from sool and snaag.. and she was surprised because the current clan conflict is made out to be a dispute between two separate oppositions of clans and their people, but these people are literally deeply integrated.

She said when ever dispute happen and there is jailing and killings the families I'm hargeisa would call their extended family in sool and basically ask to look after their family member (and vice versa).

These people have been living door to door for the past centuries and having same language, culture, faith ( nearly common in everything) they are the same people but because clanism is so rooted in somali culture they have 'us and them' mentality..

this us and them mentality is used as a manipulation tactic by the corrupt politically interested individuals (mostly old heada) to get ahead in politics or business.

I don’t get it at all though. Like this is your own family thats getting harmed but you still rep your clans, support it, and aid in its benefit. I never get it wallahi it’s a disease to me. How do you look at them eye to eye, act nice to them but when your in the quiet of your home you support what your clan military does. Family members are fighting on opposite sides, young men die, women die, children die on both sides and its all fueled by the old men who sloth away in their villas ordering the deaths of hundreds for what? A name? A legacy? We are talking about cousins, uncles, extended family fighting on both sides and you try to cover it? It’s jarring tbh. And many of these people don’t even live back home and barely know the somali language/culture and still spout it. Mfers get to live in the comforts of the west spouting this genocidal rhetoric and yet they call themselves Muslims too.
