Three Govt Officials arrested for corruption case in Somaliland
Somaliland police arrested three officials for corruption allegations, the first of its kind since president Musa Bihi has assumed the presidency just three months ago. The chairman of Darasalam district, Hon. Abdikarim Ali Mohamed, his deputy Hon. Abdikarim Adan Jibril and the executive secretary Hon. Fu’ad Ibrahim Koshin are in police custody awaiting to be brought before a court of law.
The arrest came following the order of commander in chief and the president of the republic who has said that his administration has a zero tolerance policy towards corruption. The three public officials were accused of selling public asset and misappropriating it. The president Musa Bihi made surprise visit to Darasalam district which lies north of Hargeisa, Somaliland capital last week were he inspected Hargeisa water supply in Geed Deeble and Biya Shinaha.
The president unexpectedly came across a public land fenced for pasture which has been misappropriated and sold by the three officials and having the president visited the district, he made swift decision which saw the apprehension of the three officials who are in captivity for a week. The Head of State met with elders and Darasalam district residents who confirmed that the land has been fenced by Darasalam officials. The president upon return to Hargeisa has commanded the home affairs minister and the police commissioner to bring the three public officials behind bars. Deputy Internal security minister speaking on the arrest has confirmed that they are in custody and will be brought before the court.
