My thoughts on Malaysia/Somali economy

We’ve got a lot to learn from other countries. As some have said, we should definitely learn from Malaysians and Indonesians. Some of you say we should skip the basics and that there isn’t a need for textile factories, which I find very foolish. Textile factories and manufacturing for other countries are a great way to improve the economy. Sometimes, you have to be the world's dumping ground, where others expect you to produce their products cheaply. There’s nothing shameful about that—if you're at level 0, you don’t get to jump to level 10 by skipping the basics. The basics are there for you to pass through those levels. You don’t become level 100 by skipping levels 1-10. Let me simplify this: some of you are engineers. To understand everything, isn't it essential to start from the basics? You kind of have to—you don’t skip to the end. Otherwise, you wouldn’t understand anything.

A diversified economy receiving a boost from oil and natural gas exports is the way, but you’d need a proper government. Not this Darod or Hawiye “take turns plundering the coffers of state” thing we have going on.

No no no no let’s just sell our natural resources instead of this nonsense. With money from natural resources let’s call immigrants for work only do the labour work.
Somalia's population is 20 million, and the fertility rate is 5-6. Do you understand that it's impossible for the government to subsidize handouts to Somalis back home🤦🏽

It’s not a Qabiil thing; all Somali leaders are corrupt. You name it, Deni or any of the 4.5 leaders, but corruption becomes less of an issue when we start to drill and people have access to decent education and healthcare. India also has corruption, as does Nigeria. It’s a must to pump out the resources from the ground.

Trust me, even with the poor leaders we have and despite the corruption, they won't be audacious enough to steal 100% of the oil profits. Some of the funds will go towards education, though they will still steal a lot. It's a third-world issue, to be honest. Our population is relatively small for an African country, so this money will still go a long way🤷🏽

There just needs to be an acceptable power sharing agreement. I don’t want somalia to become angola

We don’t need to make excuses, we need men that would go sleepless at night if they so much as bought their kid toys on government funds, we need leaders of strong moral fibre, and it’s possible to cultivate a culture wherein this kind of man is the archetype, corruption no matter how minute and harmless it seems, must be dealt with, otherwise you can kiss Somalia goodbye.

It’s a qabiil thing, patronage systems (tol, qabiil) lead to corruption and nepotism, if not clamped down on properly before Somalia sees decent revenue from these sectors, some shocking things will happen, never underestimate the greediness and audaciousness of mooryan pot bellies

It's not possible to cultivate that in Somalia right now. Maybe when Somalis get tired of the ongoing humiliation, like the Chinese did, then maybe things will change

If Somali leaders are mooryaans, then how foolish are the Somalis back home for dividing themselves along clan lines? When the environment changes, so will the leaders.
