During their 2010 decade most Somali men and odayaal in the uk we’re doing cab driving as is the norm and then during the latter part of this decade it shifted to the IT sector

Somalis have take over the IT sector in networking, programming, Microsoft and software etc in the UK. How?

the way they got into these high paying careers wasn’t by going university Which is extremely costly and time consuming at their age. They did IT certifications. How it works is you study for a certification, do practice exams and then take the test and then you are certified and can work in that field.

people like my uncle have offices and labs in london which train mostly Somali men and youngsters who aren’t looking to get caught in this rat race and average time for learning is from 2 months to 6 months and you can start on a £40k salary.

I myself hold CCNA, active directory and Microsoft SCCM, python and palo alto

my father hold CCNA, CCNP, checkpoint security, Palo Alto, SCCM, and a masters in cyber security and networking. The university told him the CCNA and CCNP equivelated to a bachelors degree and he only had to study cyber security.

So the main point is Somalis have become well established in the IT sector in the last 5 years and we have companies which train and send our people to work sometimes in foreign countries such as Brussels to work in nato where the average salary can be £600 an hour depending on the certification. Many of the graduates from our labs work in councils in london or high government and private sector positions and are constantly looking for new fresh talented Somalis regardless of the age.

most of the people who work with CCNA tho nowadays they just do small troubleshooting things nothing too complicated. Or you get your USB and throw out the garbage system at least that’s what the abdi who runs the Lambeth councilIT department told me

it depends on if your working as a contractor or full time. The contractors make 500 or 600 a day easily with CCNA or CCNP or CCNA voice which is what my uncle works with in Brussels at nato lol. But he has CCIE too and that’s consultant you can charge them for breathing the same air as you :mjlaugh:

Man the U.S makes things unnecessarily difficult. To get IT certs(not self-taught) can cost you around 15k- 20k and takes like a year to complete and then you start at around $52k salary so not much higher than the UK. Also to actually create a IT cert program, you need to have that certified by multiple state/national agencies ... it’s not something some guy can start on his own. You gotta have capital to start and then set up an edu institution. it’s brutal!

I mean just to get a 4 bachelor degree can easily cost you 40-60k just in tuition alone before your books, living expense etc! For example medical degree costs upwards of $200k just in tuition alone! Law Degree you’re looking at around $150k! Heck even these days some nursing programs, good chunk of them are charging around 80k - 100k! And you take all those out as student loans with an average of 8% interest! Most people end up paying them off 10-30 yrs like a mortgage 🤦🏽‍♀️

Edit: This is why most American faraaxs are truck drivers, not many IT or professionals around compare to our population here.

Somalis are amazing. I Know many tax filers, bad English, written and speaking, and comprehension, yet they file complicated file tax for dummies like me. their filing fee is cheap tho
