As our peaceful election has finished we have spoilers trying to undo our democratic values of 26 years, our xeer (customary law) and our aspirations. We must all work stridently against people that want to do us harm this is a time for reflection. Some will say I am obsessed for talking about a current news event such as my sons @waraabe and the chief mathematical engineer @fox who has curiously been missing on the same period of allegations of rigging.

We have to ask ourselves this following questions-
1- Why did it take several days to count 700k votes?
2- Why were officials trying to steal ballot boxes?
3- Why is Silanyo not coming out as a leader and telling people to stay calm, obey the law or face the consequences?
4- Why are 2 different parties claiming victory?
5- Is there foreign and local elements involved who have an economic stake i.e UAE's port project, Ethiopia's influence, leading business figures who benefited from Kulmiye's term?
6- Why is the NEC staying silent as the tension rises?

Cotton Eyed Joe is a factbringer, local intellectual and gym rat.

Mr factbringer, SL was not ready for democracy. It was forced on them by politicians in need of aid money. The entire process is led, facilitated, financed and monitored by the international community. The campaign rallies were filled with civil war rhetorics and threats along clan lines. The average SL'er doesn't have the luxury to make choices on the most personal and critical aspects of his/her life. An 18 year old in Hargeisa does not have a choice to either work or pursue higher education, some don't even have the choice to decide what they will eat for lunch. Choices on personal level should always have a bigger priority than political choices. China and Singapore understood that, India did not.

Imagine if the millions invested in the elections would've been invested in infrastructure or as an aid to drought victims in the NW regions.

Honorable Imam you are right to say the politicians forced this farcical on the people. There is no ideological differences based on political, economical or sociological factors, it is a race between tribal parties. There's a hive mind mentality propped up by tribal rhetoric your analysis is correct and frankly very worrying. As a witness to the debates between fellow Somalilanders I saw very little civility, very little understanding of political or economic theory. It was a competition between tribes, good governance meant nothing the bigger factor was ruling for the sake of it.

As other Somalis seek to go to the ballot box, Somaliland which masqueraded as a pillar of democracy has shown itself devoid of basic democratic values such as transparency and freedom of speech. The indecisiveness of the leadership is worrying, it shows a lack of maturity and disorganized leadership despite near decade Kulmiye rule. They can no longer be emulated nor called upon as the guide to a better Somali society. I say now before you ladies and gentlemen that Somaliland's election has been an abysmal event, at best a flaw.
