there’s a difference between Uyghur Muslims and the Hui Muslims. The Hui Muslims are ethnically East Asians, related with the Han (prominent and biggest ethnic group) and don’t get discriminated by the government because of their ethnic background being similar to the Han, they don’t get arrested for fasting, in fact they are allowed to practice Islam and aren’t attached nor hated on because they aren’t west/central Türkic people:

The Hui Muslims are allowed to cover up, Not drink Alchohol, go to the Hajj with no problems, have their own unique cuisine which doesn’t consists of pork, and in fact their women are starting to cover up more in recent years.
while the Uyghur’s aren’t allowed to cover up, are forced to drink, eat Alcohol, have a hard time to go to hajj and aren’t allowed to cover up.
China committed an ethnic genocide in Tibet, because these people didn’t wanted to be “one with China”, 1.2 Million people got killed according to sources, which is the fault of the communist party. They got rid of their religious practices, killed tons of people, took the land under its control and even got rid of the original Dalai Lama system. A lot of people fled the country afterwards, and guess what the west did? Nothing about. Matter of facts worse, they started to place Han and Hui Chinese people on the land and forced the Tibetans to identify themselves as Chinese, and not as Tibetans.
And the same thing is happening with the Uyghur’s. The government wants them to call themselves “Chinese”, not Uyghur. they want them to identify themselves as Chinese, get rid of their culture and become one with “society”. Identifying yourself as your ethnic group will give you backlash in a brainwashed country like China, you won’t be famous, liked or even have a normal job. And the CCP will punish you for your wrong deeds.
