Do you think slavery should be allowed in the ummah given that it was a normal part of Muslim societies just a century ago? Technically it's not Haram. :cosbyhmm: it only became stigmatized when colonists forced their colonies to end the practice, and imitating gaalo is frowned upon in the Deen.

However I've also seen some Muslims claim Islam attempted to reduce slavery. I can see this viewpoint being legitimate with the freeing of Bilal RA as an example but wasn't he only freed after converting to Islam? What about Mon Muslims? Should they be allowed to be enslaved just for not believing in Islam? :francis: seems morally very wrong.

Islam tried to make Slavery not normal during a time when it was normalized and common everywhere worldwide

Why the hell do u want to bring it back?? Technically slavery is still happening just in different ways

I don't want it back hense the title of my thread. I've seen very mixed opinions on slavery in Islam some people like you would say Islam tried to make slavery not normal while other's would say slavery in Islam is normal and only cadaans made the practice a problem. :kanyeshrug: quiet frankly these varying takes are confusing. Hopefully this thread will answer some questions. I'll edit my original post tho cause I can see why you think I'm in favor of slavery after I reread it.

slavery was in the past, we should not seek to revive it. there was no good from it. the wisdom of islam regulated it and decreased the practice over time. we should be happy it is, more or less, done away with today.

I never understood this cope, Islam codified and divinely legitimized the institution

Rasulallah got rid of Alcohol consumption although it was normal practice all over the world

Your dilemmna stems from you thinking with ultimately a western framework and tweaking it to fit with Islamic orthodoxy. If you know that slavery is not haram then why are you calling it morally grey? lol

Because Muslim countries made it illegal. Why should it be illegal and stigmatised if it's halal

Slaves were definitely more important and beneficial for the society than Alcohol, plus Khamri was distracting people from Cibaadah in many ways; yes Islam discouraged slavery if you look at the Quran تحرير رقبة or freeing a slave is the penalty for many sins.

Owning another human being and using them for labor or sexual purposes was and still is the worst things men can do to each other besides killing each other , and you can prove that to yourself by imagining it happening to you or your loved ones, we don't need a religion or God to tell us something so simple to see it's morally and literally so wrong, Westerners though they practiced it, forced ending it, gaalka dil gartiisana sii,

I heard that nowadays everyone became a sheikh. If you truly wanna talk about laws and rules in
islam dhexda hiro and start reading there are plenty of material to sift through. Then and only
then start debating not with the unlearned but people with the same knowledge base as yours.
Asking us the unlearned is like asking a random lad about astrophysics and his opinion on wither
it's structurally sound in terms of theories or if it need adjustment.

There is no text in the Quran or Sunnah which enjoins taking others as slaves, whereas there are dozens of texts which call for manumitting slaves and freeing them.

Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) manumitted a slave of his, then he picked up a stick or something from the ground and said: There is no more reward in it than the equivalent of this, but I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “Whoever slaps his slave or beats him, his expiation is to manumit him.” (Narrated by Muslim, 1657)

There is the ideal and their is reality. Unfortunately slavery was ubiquitous throughout the world up untill the industrial revolution.
