Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has stated that he has a full confidence on the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and their ability to realise peace and security in Somalia.

Speaking to the BBC Somali Service, President Hassan said the forces were capable of restraining the spread of militant groups in the country, adding similar initiatives could be be implemented elsewhere.

President Mohamud was speaking in a key security meeting focused on Burundi crisis and mandate of African Union peacekeepers in Somalia.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has strongly suggested that African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) be strengthened with maritime and air power since deadly raid on a base in southwestern El Adde village.

Uhuru told AU Peace and Security Council that battle-hardened terrorists are trying to impede Somalia’s progress.

President Hassan blamed the Somalis for their inability to constitute an army with a national outlook, saying leaders were concentrating on tribal army.

Over 22,000-strong AU forces in currently in Somalia to prop up Somali National Army (SNA) in the fight against militants in central and southern Somalia.

He doesn't even realise what he's saying. You're meant to be a leader not a yes man to the UN.

Or at least that's what the somali people thought.

He's campaigning. Donor funds and support are needed if he wants to secure another 5 years in office.

He who pays the piper calls the tune smh what can we expect from a president who is payed, guarded by the UN. If things continue as they're then I would support Puntland to go on & claim sovereignty as a separate nation, cause this is adding insult to injury.

ofcourse his also part of the problem:francis:

He is right. No Somali other than the mentally compromised would die for that useless blue flag and nationalism. I am glad the majority of people do not believe in it and reject it. They care infinitely more about their tol and its interests than an imaginary nation that was never created organically by the people but was forced on them by colonialist kuffar.

Federalism = none of Somalia is my business? What's his actual job? He hasn't even tried to put an army together? Why is Turkey building that factory? The Turkish embassy looks better and is probably bigger than villa Somalia. Why not officially hand the country over?

Hassan Sheikh has been arming only Hawiye as SNA and using them to ethnically cleanse the Shabelle valley. He armed Hawadle against Dir in Hiiraan, Abgaal against Shiidle in Middle Shabelle and Habar Gidir against Biimaal in Lower Shabelle, He wants those three states to be completely under the control of Hawiye, and to either dislocate (e.g Shiidle and Biimaal) or outright erase (e.g Surre Dir) any non Hawiye clans from those rich regions.

The ICC should be investigating this atrocity which is the second main cause of IDPs after the Amisom/Alshabab conflict.

No dictator can imprison a population forever.
He's right, like it or not amisom is the only thing holding back alshabab rule. There is no army nor can their be if each militia continues to be loyal to their local clan elder.
