Produce from a farmer in Kenya can reach Somalia faster and cheaper compared to produce from our own farms inside Somalia

lower shabele alone has 7-12 isbaaro before you get your produce to xamar. Not worth investing in that shithole until the people that live there get their region in order.

I asked my friend (AI) what we should grow in our republic Puntland with the right management. As climate change is occuring and corruption in the south, food availability will decrease. Our government has no idea of the disaster that is coming.

1. Drought-tolerant grains: Sorghum, millet, and maize (corn) are staple crops that are well-suited for dryland farming. They have adapted to arid conditions and can tolerate limited water availability.

2. Legumes: Crops like chickpeas, lentils, and cowpeas are known for their nitrogen-fixing capabilities, which improve soil fertility. They also require less water compared to some other crops.

3. Root vegetables: Sweet potatoes, cassava, and yams are resilient crops that can grow well in dry areas. They have deep root systems that enable them to access moisture from lower soil layers.

4. Fruits and vegetables: Some fruit trees like pomegranate, date palm, and figs have shown potential in arid regions. Vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and onions can also be cultivated, provided proper irrigation methods are employed.

5. Herbs and spices: Crops like cumin, coriander, and oregano are drought-tolerant and can be grown for culinary and medicinal purposes.

Isbaaros are killing the south. @DR OSMAN why haven't you setup greenhouses in Garowe? We should meet local demand.

Unfortunately trade is down in PL. High ISIS taxes and political chaos are weighing on business

South is still the cheapest place to get food. That’ll continue in the foreseeable future. Isbaaro affects farms as far away to Janaale where security is more of an issue.

Rather than Afgooye these days which has a Qatari built road cutting travelling times to 30 minutes and improved security

Stick to the truth.

Somalia - Joint Markets and Supply Chain Update: 02 July - 08 July 2023

Prices: Prices of most food and non-food items exhibited mixed trends compared to a week ago across the country.

Exceptions are in Somaliland, and Jubaland where prices of items remained relatively stable compared to previous week.

Local cereal (white maize and red sorghum) prices exhibited mild (1-3%) to moderate (5-8%) price increases in Mogadishu, Hirshabelle and Puntland compared to a week a go due to slight decline in supply. However, declines in local cereal prices were recorded in Southwest due to increase in supply from early Gu 2023 harvest.

Prices of most of imported food commodities remained relatively stable compared to previous week in most states except some increases (3-5%) in Mogadishu due to slight decline in supply. Notably, prices of local quality goat declined (1-13%) in Puntland and Galmudug due to decrease in demand.

However, this decrease in price was expected given high goat prices that prevailed during the period of Eid-al Adha celebration.

There are illegal checkpoints by Hawiye militias and Shabaab between Afgooye and Mogadishu.

I think many of these dams should be built. To grow these crops, water conservation need to be employed in every dry riverbed and also valley.
