Puntland was initially funded by Bosaso Port, and that same money was used to fund the first Federal Government of Somalia.
Thats amazing. But we are a third world country. Why would we move from international aid? Theres no economy, people live in poverty and have to rely on diaspora to send them money

Aid makes you lazy and dependent on foreigners. It also destroys the local economies such as farmers and retailers because people can just get food and other necessities from NGOs.
Agriculture is not a huge money maker (very thin margins), it is usually propped up by funds and tax breaks from their respective governments. It is illogical to produce local goods if you are going to be out competed by cheaper goods from aid.
The country as a whole becomes less innovative and becomes dependent on other countries that can manipulate it in the form of soft power. That is literally what is happening in Somalia currently. America literally cuts aid from countries that introduce laws that they don't agree with. (Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, e.t.c,)
Furthermore, very little aid goes to the people that actually need it, politician steal the aid and resell it back to the people they were elected to help.
This is a step in the right direction.
I agree with you but as long as remittance is a thing I dont think somalis will try hard to improve their situation. Also most people back home are uneducated and only are preoccupied with basic needs and stupid clan wars, I dont think anything is changing in the foreseeable future. You do know when we had our kingdom we were giving aid to the gulf? They don't teach this in the woke somalinimo history class cause they know we became third world by joining this ethnic nationalist mess. We would've been a Somali Khaleej as we have the highest grade of minerals, oil, and renewable energy(sun and wind) sources in the world.
We don't need Somalia, they need us as witnessed when we left in 91, they became pagan cawaans untill we returned and paved the way for them in 2004 to 2009 under the TFG.

In the near future, all of Somalia will be forced to go without international aid due to donor fatigue and other priorities. If Puntland is forced to take the painful step towards self-suffciency now due to a hostile Xamar, then when the fateful day comes and Xamar is cut off the aid, Puntland will already be ahead again.
