I have a relative, he came from a really poor family in the hawd and he cane to our house to make his way in hargeisa. He didn't have a single penny to his name. Once has came to us, we paid for part time school so he can learn reading, writing, basic maths. We took him to a friends local shop so he can learn the trade, he saved up enough from what he earned (this is all happening while he lives with us), he started acting as security for the shop he worked in (sleeping there at night). This brother Mashallah wallahi is one of the best, humble, clean hearted people you can meet. after a year he saved up enough to buy those cartwheel little shops (caaryoone) he wanted to be his own boss. He then made enough to rent out a shop, started his own bakhaar. This is all with in 5 years him moving to Hargeisa being illiterate, not a single penny to his name.

Fast forward to 2016, he has a big bakhaar, planing on opening another one. He got married and had a kid, he is in the process of building a family home, he got his brothers out of hawd and they are in school in hargeisa

@nucleus now imagine what a spoilt person who wants to gamble with his or her life could do with that $10,000 they spent on Tahriib.

This is pure individual Enterprises that can build our nation, not some hand outs from the state. The only role of the state is to provide security (so businesses can operate safely), provide education (quality so skills can improve), infrastructure (to allow commerce to continue without hindering)

He is one of my favorite relatives, wallahi you can't tell how proud we are of him

@waraabe has a human side to him:ehh:

You cant change ppl brah. Theres folk back home with considerable wealth who want to throw all that away for some fake life in the west.

Sometimes i think about my family back home, so much of my extended family have moved and set up bases anywhere but somalia. Im proud of my grandparents, theyve never left the country except for Hajj. You can see the raw authentic Somalinimo in them, uninfluenced by globalisation

My point is our country is full of these kind of stories. why waste that money on Tahriib. I kid you not I know a woman who spent $22,000 on getting her kid to Europe. Absolutely mind boggling.

If you think about, s/he will earn that back in a year or less by working. The problem is the risk. Life is priceless.
