I keep hearing of cadcads and xamaris and barwanis and shanshis and apparently they are all different and do not have a common ancestor. Honestly speaking i cannot tell the difference when they speak. Is their a dialect difference among them?

Barawini have a Swahili like accent I guess. There are three cities where reer Benadir preside, Xamar, Barawa and Merca. That's all I apparently know. The ones that live in Xamar sound like Abgals I think. That's all I know bro. Excuse my ignorance if I'm wrong doh.

Shanshi came from Persians so they have a 'kh' when they talk, or overpronounce certain words. That's what I've been told.

@Atiya I noticed all of these people do not have the letter q in their somali vocabs. They raplace it with kh. For example theh will say maraKH instead of maraQ.

Shanshis are reer xamar as they are from xamar and live along other xamaris and have the same accent as they all live together but every reer xamar clan has different ancestries although most date back to Yemen some however date back to Persia and no they don't have the same accent as abgaals although it's quite close. Barwanis however are different, they don't speak Somali but barwani asharafs share ancestory with reer xamar asharafs. Barwani are typically originally from places like Oman and some go back to Persia too. For some reason they have a lot of Kenyan influence and their accent sounds sawahili and most see Kenya as their home as appposed to Somalia. Not sure why though ask @HalyeeyQaran

I've recently met a Shia Iranian girl that didn't speak or look Somali. Her parents did speak Somali though. They were late generation barwanis and went back to Iran after the war.

Beenta jooji. :stopit:

There aren't any Barawanis from Persia. The only people with any Persian ancestry in the Somali peninsula are Reer Xamar and Bajuun.

The two ethnic Bravanese clans are Hatimi and Biida. They're known to the Tunnis as Laba Tol (the two kin). Biida arrived in Barawa about 200 years prior to Hatimi. The last group that arrived to Barawa was the Ashraaf. They arrived in Barawa in the early 1670s, almost 200 years after the Hatimi clan. None of these clans arrived to Barawa from Persia. They all departed from the Arabian Peninsula.

That's enough for the history lesson today.

Wrong, wrong, WRONG!

Firstly Benaadiris (reer xamar and Barawaanis) do not share common origins at all.

There are Arab, Indian, Persian, Hebrew and Greek (who are usually found in Xamar) Benaadiris. I only heard of one tribe that have Greek ancestry.

@HalyeeyQaran Persians can be found in Barawa too saaxib. Many Shanshiyos migrated to Baraawa centuries ago, I believe Shirazi Persians have settled among them too.

Most Benaadiri tribes can be found in Xamar AND Baraawa (for example the Shanshiyo), some tribes are more concentrated in Xamar whilst others are to be found mainly in Baraawa. The Omanis are mainly to be found in Baraawa, the Asharaaf are to be found in both Xamar and Baraawa. The Asharaaf that are descendants of Hasan ibn Ali (RA) the grandson of the prophet (SAW) are mainly found in Marka, Xamar, they are from the Al-Ahdali family. The Asharaaf that are descendants of Hussein (RA) younger brother of Hassan (RA) are to be found mainly in Shingaani, Xamar (where I'm from).

There are various of Arab and Persian tribes that have settled in Benaadir. Asharaaf are one of the Arab tribes, there is also the Hatimis (my tribe) who trace their lineage to Adi ibn Hatim (RA), there are also the Omanis, other Qahtaanis and another tribe from Quraysh in addition to the Asharaaf Hashimites called the Al-Zuhri who are from the Banu Zahrah branch of Quraysh. The only Hebrew tribe I'm aware of are the 'Amraani who descendants of Yemeni Jews but converted to Islam.

Reed Xamar Benaadiris have a dialect that can be understood by the local ethnic Somalis.

Barawaanis speak chimini (which I can understand) and it's not the same thing as Swahili.

Source of my information? I ask the elders of Benaadir a lot of questions regarding these issues (sometimes they get annoyed with me).

Over 90% of the Benaadiris left Xamar and around 3000 remain. The estimation was 2000 in 2004.

The vast majority have migrated to the Middle East, Far East, Europe and neighbouring East African countries.
