Republic of Somaliland Ministry of Foreign Affairs hires US lobbying firm The Glover Park Group to advise on communications and government relations matters as well as to conduct services associated with Somaliland's bilateral relations with the United States.

The Glover Park Group is an American communications consulting firm headquartered in Washington, D.C. The company was founded in 2001 by former White House and Democratic campaign officials Carter Eskew, Michael Feldman, Joe Lockhart and Chip Smith. The firm is known for its public relations, advertising, opinion research, and lobbying services.

The lobbying form was filed the same day as Somaliland sent a formal request to the State Dept for exemption to the US Visa ban.

With the hiring of this well established lobbying firm Somaliland intends to further increase relations with the United States as well as promote it's call for international recognition.

Useless. They tried it before many times.
It's been good so far. They already made a lot of noise in US media with the request for exemption to the visa ban.

Plus with Trump officials supposedly amenable to SL recognition it doesn't hurt to see how successful the lobbying efforts will be.

A simpel lesson in geopolitics and international law would prove why this is a fruitless endeavour.

First and foremost, the US follows the line determined by the AU who then again defers to AMISOM, which has concluded that recognize Somaliland would set a precedent for other conflict on the continent and further the balkinization of Somalia. That assessment hasn't changed.

Second, in international law there has in practice and in the statues developed a presumption against independence unless the region meet three criteria that makes proves it distinct from the surrounding area, promoting peace rather than destroy it and showing continued wrong-doings that can only be addressed by statehood. Somaliland does not meet the test. However international law is at times described as lex-imperfecta meaning that it is incomplete because there is not monopoly violence behind it and it can therefore be overriden by geopolitic but even there SL does not the advantage.

Furthermore, the US doesn't conduct any meaningful trade with Somaliland proven by the lack of a consulate that would necessitate recognition of Somaliland if so many other countries would come before Somaliland. The most likely country to recognize SL would be Ehtiopia, which has vested interests there.

Lastly, the money wasted on this could be better spent on the drought victims in SL

Why are they waisting money on fruitless endeavor?

Could they have not found better use for that money when drought has hit their region?

:faysalwtf:Waste of money! This is not the right move at the moment, we need to divert everything to the drought, same law firm which we were paying around 22k a month 3 years ago! :ivers:

Hopefully they lobby for international recognition because the exemption request was walking before you crawl. Funds should go to pushing international recognition, everything will come afterwards.
