These people were merely breaking their fast! WHY DID THEY DESRVE TO DIE?
honestly someone needs to capture one and see what goes through their heads. how do you even convince someone that allah wants you to slaughter other muslims?

They don't believe that these people are muslims, it is that simple. They believe that anyone who is not a member of the 'fi ah' or group are not muslims. Alshabab believe that most Somali people are not muslims. They will not say this publicly because it is too crazy (yes, even Alshabab care about their image).
They are takfiris, absolutely no different from ISIS. Alshabab is perhaps the most ideologically extreme group still part of the Alqaida network. It is basically an ISIS that still gives lip service to Ayman Al Zawahiri.

For just $50 a month per spy you could have eyes and ears in every tuulo/village in South Somalia.
Probably less than the government spends on international conferences and weekly flights.
In Ethiopia every single insect is accounted for...young men can't even travel 10 miles before getting checked over by either patrolling cops or road stops.
I know the government doesn't have the funds to go all big brother but it doesn't take that much to know what's going on in every population centre.
Even in the bushes they still have to eat and hence have interactions with society for logistics and etc.
You don't beat Al Shabaab with heavy artillery & US drone missiles.
You take them down like criminal gangs around the world.
You probably won't get the people behind them.
However if you take down their infrastructure (all their foot soldiers, suicide bombers in training and officers/brain-washers) again and again... those backers will end up giving up on this strategy.
If you do it right then hopefully you won't see cases like these:
