I have become totally unmoved by Al-Shabaab stories. Pretty sad, but it has now become day-to-day-news in Somalia.

They don't have nationalistic or ethnic brotherly sentiments. A white convert salafi who has joined their ranks is closer to them than their father who supports the government. It's ideological.

Also, violent jihadist never prosper in a peaceful environment. And they know this. It is in their interests to keep things violent and disorganised, it's pretty much the only way they can carry on.
