That is true. Snowing is not unheard of in high altitude areas even in the tropics.

Below is pictures of mount Kenya. The summit of the mountain has snow throughout the year, though the snow cover is reducing every year due to climate change.

Mount Kilimanjaro is even more picturesque with its giant glaciers. Sadly this are all fading away due to global warming. In a few more decades they might disappear.
