Somali Agricultural Revolution

Somali Region(SR) before 2020 produced similar amounts of produce to Somalia. The admin in recent years began a reform named “Dalag iyo Daryeel” aimed at inceasing the regions food security, gdp, aswell as battling effects of inflation in SR by keeping food costs low.

In the past year it went from a rival 1-2 million quintals/300k hectares to 23 million quintals and 770k hectares cultivated. SR jumped in agricultural output by 13-14x in a single year. Learn more here with the minister of agriculture

SR is this year planning to make another ~300k increase in hectares(around all of Somalias cultivated land iirc) and cultivate ~1 million hectares while simultaneously doubling the output. If completed SR will attain ~46 million quintals total.

On a landmass/population 50% of Somalia and in only 2 years of reforms SR can have 25x the total output of its neighbor and this is only scratching the surface of what’s still available on the Shabelle.

Update: The region achieved cultivating a million hectares but did not achieve 46 million quintals it did however jump to 30 million quintals despite weather challenges this year.

Harooreys a district the size of Galdogob or Jowhar has yielded around 2 million of those quintals. Most of which is Wheat, Maize, and Sorghum.

The region is planning on expanding rice production over the next 3 years on the Shabelle.

It will build up to 10k Hectares. With averages of around 14M calories per acre this means we will be able to satisfy the needs of ~2.3 Million people from the get. There will also be alot of fodder leftover to alleviate pressures on livestock amidst drought.

Awbare has the highest population density in the SR, I've posted pictures before, but between Awbare and the surrounding land Northwest of Borama and Gabiley are probably the most productive pieces of farmland in Somali control, Oromo have constantly tried to take it since their arrival in the 16th century.

I assume it's mostly from groundwater sources.

stop this humiliation large scale food production for food security is the best policy not like us in Somalia who think it's some ganacsi lol, no country who uses agriculture as its main industry is 1st or even 2nd world, their all purely third world.

As Somali Region shows agriculture goal is to have food security not rely on imports which can be sanctioned anytime by the origin country in the event of political dispute.

Your also in Somalia thru JL, you should tell somali region PL, JL, SW, Hiran wants to join ETHIOPIA economical growth, rather then being held hostage by these pagan moryans in the capital.

Agriculture is very profitable. It’s 1.5 trillion dollars in America and 5.6% of gdp. A civilization that cannot feed itself and master basics like agriculture ,fisheries ,forestry ,and mining is low iq. These things have enriched countries for thousands of years and is in under your feet. If puntland and somaliland had the soil and rivers south had they would produced a lot of food unfortunately all best farmland is in chaotic south. But same time puntland and somaliland failing in taking advantage of fish industry maybe I am thinking to highly of them

1.5 trillion for 350 million ppl puts them into third world category if it was their primary industry, its also the most unskilled also because it's a low iq industry with very high costs investment vs low good prices, go look at the supply chain of a farmer lol, u won't ever see a wealthy one for a reason, it's a penny by the kilo industry, yes it's important for food security and that's it for most successful country you really need other high skilled industry to get high incomes.

Even Nomads r richer then farmers an example is the rahanwayn who couldn't afford to even sell their lands and get properties in cities while nomads sold part of their livestock and could join urban cities while having also livestock back up.

I pray South follows Africa farming economy, I am not trying to convince u, I don't want any darod too tho.

I lived in Midwest most my life walahi these farmers are rich. They make good money and pass on wealth generation to generation. The technology they use is also crazy. Farming branches of and creates so many other jobs. Trucking, shipping, equipment manufacturing, research/science . The productivity gains crazy due to new seeds, farming methods and automated equipment. I think puntland should focus on livestock and fishing no reason it can’t be billion dollar industry

You don't make any sense how is an unskilled 15000 year industry which anyone can do the same as high skilled industry that noone can do or is limited by skills shortage?

The whole world is doing agriculture which is an intention to keep it over supplied so prices r always low very low, go look at the prices per kilo and ask a farmer how much he spends to produce it in operating costs 😆

Farmers even get subsidies by govt knowing it's a dead industry so thry don't flee it, the govt keeps it afloat because they know these economic facts.

Some Of the truck driver guys on this site probably also know how rich these farmers are. You looking down on agriculture while desert Saudi Arabia spending billions trying to make it happen they also spending billions buying farmland abroad. DDS smart Somalia should copy them and learn from them and even invite them to share best practices

Lol once the govt subsidy ends their farms shut down bro, govt is keeping it afloat for food security reasons and giving them money to stay in business, it's not their industry that is lucrative lol or else the govt wouldn't need to intervene to protect it from death. Their leeching of tax redistribution of high skilled democrat states even republicans know this.

If the farmer areas were given independence they would be no different to south america or Africa. Their govt revenue would be crippled with no money to invest infrastructure because the industry is low paying and low returns for owners if left by themselves without govt subsidies.

He also doesn't want Somalia to explore for oil. Guy thinks that Somalia or some part of it can just magically become like the USA or something with private equity markets popping up over night and investment bankers running around. Meanwhile, you can't install a simple camera in your jingad kiosk in Xamar without a terrorist trying to stick a bullet between your eyes.
