It's because American identity is the easiest to clinge to if you're born in America you're American it doesn't matter who your ancestors are that's why the US is the best country in assimilating immigrantsdon't want to derail this into a diaspora mud slinging thread but I've noticed American Somalis like all diaspora communities that live there try to distance themselves from their heritage and desperately claim the American identity.
Pretty much this^ its not that we are trying to distance ourselves, its that we have very little to say to people who never met, its always, like the tweet said repeat how are you 15 different ways. I don't blame them for trying to uphold ties of kinship, but if you got nothing to say you got nothing to saylmao, my cousin who lives in Africa does the same exact shit. Every time, the same questions. Does not ask anything new, shows i think the lack of creativity over there. Then he wonders why i stopped responding to him. Ciida kwrn every week gets to you after literally two years of it nonestop
You support #FobSomaliFreedomDiaspora who think they’re better than Fobs need to get there Somali card revoked. I refuse to share a common identity with such idiots.

When did it become so mainstream to hate Somalis back home. Usually it takes 2-3 generations for this to happen but in the Somali community we have people who have been living abroad for 5 years before they start hating on fobs. What’s going on?
Usually the opposite I see. Somalis back home be talking shit about the Western disapora, saying that we're "half-Somali" and have lost our dhaqan and are much weaker than the disapora in Africa.
Is that a lie?
We had a xalimo here who was crying because she was lactose intolerant the other day. The Somalis back home don’t even complain about a bullet wound.
