Firstly imma just say I’m a proud somali, somalinimo till I dhimo to the end and I love my country (i just troll a lot), if anyone asks me where I’m from I say Somalia and proudly so but there’s just one problem. I can never have the Somali flag in my bio or rep it in any way except as a wrist band, I just find it so hideous and ugly why is it so plain and a white star in the middle aswell it’s so basic and just

Never. Our flag is great. It's simple in construction, easily-recognisable, and, most of all, beautiful.

[Mohammed Awale Liban] chose the blue colour to represent peace and the UN and placed a white 5-pointed star in the centre. Each point of the white star was to represent the five Somali regions which had been divided by the colonial powers.

The flag represents the hope that one day, we will unify our nation - which was torn apart by colonialism and post-WW2 realpolitik - into a single state: Somaliweyn.
