Somali General Nur ibn Mujahid

From Franciscan missionary Pedro Paez's Historia da Etiopia we learn an interesting tale about the character of the noble mujahid, the master of the second conquest, our lord and master Emir Nur ibn Mujahid, the nephew of the noble Imam Ahmed ibn Ibrahim ibn Umar Al Ghazi. After the Emir Nur destroyed Gelawdewos's army at Fatagar despite being outnumbered and sacked his royal residence at Wej, the Emir returned to his capital of Harar not upon a a large stallion or another great horse which fit his stature but rather a humble donkey with a worn out saddle in order to show how victory was not from his own Martial brilliance but through Allah's favor. It is worth noting that Paez served in the court of Emperor Susenyos, Gelawdewos's Great Nephew, and personally interviewed a monk who witnessed the battle of Fatagar at 16 years old.
