Alhamdullilah this isn't part of the norm within our community. But sadly there's homo somali men that are in denial. I pray they get the guidance they need.

Since you guys love these outrageous stories. Let me tell you a real story that I witnessed personally and then some advise at the end. This ain't a story I heard from someone else. I know the individual personally.

This dude is South Asian hard-core Salafi especially the types that do mass takfeer. Hyper masculine aswell. Always showcasing his aggression against deviancy etc.

One day the Imam got a phone call from this guys wife saying: "My husband likes to dress up as a lady at home and does this every night."

The Imam was clearly shocked and thought this couldn't be the case as he knew this guy for being hard-core.

So the Imam decides to call the guy up and said to him that his wife has some concerns that she raised and mentioned it to him.

Mind you I was in the Masjid about to pray as I was helping this Masjid in their accountancy and charities department fulfill criteria for registration. After the prayer what do I see?

I see this guy in the Imams office sobbing his eyes out. He was crying like crazy. I was thinking, what's going on? What happened?

A few days later I saw the Imam and asked him what on earth was going on with that guy?

The Imam said this guy has some serious serious issues. He told me that he feels more like a woman than a man and that's the only thing that gives him comfort and that he was sexually abused growing up etc. He even said I'm doing the best I can not to change my gender and been fighting it for a long time.


Moral of the story:

Any prospective parents... my advice to you be very very very careful with your children in the future. Don't let them go to sleepovers nor unsupervised in any gathering and teach them the signs of abuse early. The biggest monsters that you need to be wary of isn't some stranger. It's the unsuspecting uncle, grandpa, cousins and possibly even siblings and those who have close access to your children. Be very very careful.

In the Somali community we don't teach our children about abuse. It's a big parenting mistake. We also trust family members too easily and give extended family easy access. These are the ingredients that enable widespread abuse.
