lol was just lurking and couldn't help but comment on this. I have no idea why the GOP hasn't targeted minorities as part of their voter base, especially Hispanics and the Muslim community. Wouldn't it make sense? I mean Muslims and Hispanics/Latinos align on so many conservative issues with Republicans after all. Securing the Hispanic/Latino vote would be huge for any party, it's one of the reasons why Obama won. Alienating Hispanic/Latinos, Muslims and other minorities, while pandering and posturing to the core GOP voter base won't secure a presidential vote.

Also the GOP has royally fucked themselves in the ass with Trump. They had their chance to denounce him from the party when he was running, but kept him to rally up the core GOP voter base. I don't know, did they think Ted Cruz, Rand Paul or Rubio were going to steal away the spotlight? lol. Anyways, they are learning the hard way now. Their past the point of no return. So much of the GOP voter base is heavily supportive of Trump and feeds off his rhetoric. and it wouldn't make sense from a partisan point of view to let him go. At the same time, this is such a huge hallmary. It could end well but even worse, it could end disastrously and really discredit the whole Republican party. The thing people need to realize is that the Republican party has set themselves up for this situation. They've been spewing similar anti-christian and bigoted rhetoric to their voter base for a long ass time. To put it simply, as I read on a political forum, Donald Trump is making the Republican subtext, text.

I'm just a Canadian viewing this from the outside though. @menace, what do you think?

Goes back to the shadows to lurk once again.

I agree it's taking a hit, but where?? If you mean Europe and the rest of the Western world, then I sort of disagree. The anti-Islam narrative is really popular in some parts of Europe. I'm sure many Europeans who are having their borders ransacked by refugees/economic migrants from Muslim countries in droves share the same sentiments as Trump and his supporters. Even in Canada, there's a lot of non-Muslims that are feeding into this. The recent attacks on Hijabi's for example.

What bothers me the most is that everything that's happening right now is exactly what ISIS and other radical Islamic groups want. ISIS is just taking huge W's all across the board. Americans and Europeans are slowly turning onto moderate Muslims (people like us) through the fear mongering caused by terrorist attacks, mainstream media reporting on it 24/7 and idiots like Trump scaring the f*ck out of everyone. The people in the Muslim world are seeing the type of shit Trump is saying and they will start to develop even more anti-Us/West feelings. All perfect ingredients for fresh new recruits. They want Muslim moderates to get fed up with the West and retaliate back. They want more reasons people in the Muslim world to have to hate the West. It's just a vicious cycle that will continue to feed their ideology and give them more recruits. I really worry about the future of Islam and what it means to be a Muslim in the West going forward. Of course many other religions, races and ethnicities have also gone through much worse. Just look at the persecution of Japanese, Russian, German, and Irish people in the past and what they had to face in America. And now their doing just fine. Things like this make me think that Judgement day is coming soon wallahi

He talk a a lot but he won't deliver on any of his outrageous suggestions. It's just to throw a bone to the primitive right wing base.

Trump isn't actually a life long conservative. He used to be a Democrat. He is not religious. He was pro choice and has had other liberal positions. I don't even think he hates Muslims or Hispanics or Blacks. But his base does. And Trump panders to them.

But he's fake as f*ck. He's not racist or anti Muslim. He probably looks at his right wing base with utter disdain and think they are knuckle dragging cavemen

I mean, dudes doing a better job at being fake than the actual politicians. Perhaps that explains a lot of his success. :sass2: Seems like he's figured it out.

I think he went into this as a marketing ploy. Dude was pretty irrelevant before this and now he's in back the spotlight 24/7. This is the most genius marketing ploy of all time. I think he was like damn, I'm getting all this support, I guess I'll roll with it.

He's also exposing how fraudish the political system is. He was clowning all the nominees about how they have to beg for money from the major political sponsors while he's saying whatever the hell he wants lol

Trump is the fuckin man lol

Mhm. Democracy is changing right before our eyes. It started out as a form of government of the people, by the people, and for the people. (Paraphrasing part of Lincoln's famous Gettysburg address). But nowadays capitalism has taken over every aspect of our lives. I mean it's a decision the Western community has decided when we were in the industrial revolution (thanks a lot Adam Smith), and it wasn't a bad one in hindsight. It's brought a lot of economic prosperity to a lot of countries. At the same time, a few of these capitalists have amassed so much power and wealth that they have their hands on everything. It's crazy when you look at how many CEOs and corporate shills that become politicians and vice versa. Both the corporate world and government are very strongly linked. Just look at the type of lobbying that goes on in DC. I mean this nigga came out and said that he's going to spend 750 million on campaign funding https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...016-spending-from-889-million-to-750-million/

That's fucking ridiculous. These guys are the ones calling shots, you'd be deluded to think that high level politicians work for the people. The only real hope of democracy being a sustainable option looking down the road is to eliminate corporate funding from campaigns. No more I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine. The sad reality is though this stuff isn't going to stop anytime soon to be realistic. Corporations and their shareholders want as much deregulation and tax breaks as possible
