Thank f*ck we're not an Italian speaking nation. Half of Africa has a European language as their de facto language, which is a disgrace. Almost no Somali below the age of 55 can speak Italian.
Algerians have Paris as their ka'bah. Somalis can't even locate Rome on a map.
To be honest I wouldn't have Italian as our native language but it would be beneficial if some Somalis learnt it:
1. We will be able to access the old archives during the colonial and post-colonial (until 1972) archives, documentaries and radio recordings. These would be lost forever if we don't access them.
2. Indians migrate to England to study, Somalis would be able to white-guilt the f*ck out of Italian speakers into migrating to study.
The best engineering university is in an Italian speaking country.
3. Italian lets our people easily learn Spanish, Portuguese and French therefore letting them have connections to most of the world.
4. Having Switzerland as an ally is important and is much more beneficial than Turkey, they are moral and efficient. If some Somalis studied Italian it would make our relationship stronger.
I don't want Italian an official language of Somalia but I don't want its complete removal from Somali society. All of our Prime ministers since independence have been fluent in Italian and HSM being the first president who is not. While Somalia should not go Djibouti regarding Italian it should not go Rwanda, more of a middle road.
I know Somali genes are supposedly 'weak' but I swear this girl looks like a bunch of Somali girls I know - she's just lighter. The lip shape, even her demeanour waa like gabar somaali.
