The victim of Wednesday’s fatal shooting on Markham Road has been identified as a 27-year-old Toronto man.
The incident unfolded at around 12:30 a.m. outside the Tropics Restaurant and Bar on Markham Road near Eglinton Avenue East in Scarborough.
According to police, gunfire erupted in the area shortly after an altercation broke between several people.
The victim, identified by police Thursday as Yusef Hagi Ahmed, initially ran across the street but later collapsed after suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Two others victims, a woman and a man, both sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the shooting.
Investigators said they are searching for a suspect described as a 20-year-old man with a light complexion. He was last seen fleeing the area on foot wearing dark clothing.
A white SUV left behind at the scene was seized by investigators but Toronto Police Det. Jeffery Tavares could not confirm whether the vehicle is in fact connected to the case.
Police urge any possible witnesses and anyone who may have been inside the restaurant at the time to come forward and speak to investigators.
“If you were inside the bar… We want to speak to you. We want to know everything about every person that was inside that bar,” Tavares told reporters at a news conference Wednesday.
Anyone with information is being asked to call Det. Sgt. Kevin Leahy or Det. Tavares at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
