EXCLUSIVE: Playing South By Southwest this weekend, A Stray tells the very relevant story of Adan (Captain Phillips‘ Barkhard Abdirahman), a young Somali Muslim refugee living on the streets of Minneapolis who forms a strong bond with a stray dog after nearly killing the animal with his car. As Adan and his new companion navigate the Somali refugee community in Minneapolis, he also has to deal with being homeless, reconciling faith and family, and meddlesome FBI agents trying to use him as an informant. Get a sense of what that’s like in this exclusive clip above.
Written and directed by Musa Syeed whose previous film Valley of Saints won the Audience Award and Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize at Sundance 2012, A Stray also stars Faysal Ahmed, Christina Baldwin, Ayla, Fathia Absie, Jamaal “Happy Khalif” Farah, Abdullahi Haji-Mohamed, Ifrah Mansour, Rhiana Yazzie, and George McCauley. Jamila Wignot produced. The film screens Sunday, March 13 at 4:00PM at the Vimeo Theater. Additional screenings follow on Monday, March 14 at 3:15PM and Thursday, March 17 at 11:45PM, both at The Alamo Lamar.
